Can You Really Get Free Windows in Florida? Yes — But Here’s the Catch

If you’ve heard that Florida offers free windows, it’s kind of true — but there’s a catch.

Thanks to the My Safe Florida Home Program, eligible homeowners can get up to $10,000 in matching grants to install impact-resistant windows. For every $1 you spend, the state kicks in $2. Pretty sweet, right?

But here’s what you need to know:

  • 🏠 Your home must be built before 2008, have a homestead exemption, and be insured under $700K.

  • 💸 You pay upfront and get reimbursed — so it’s not truly free.

  • 🚫 Watch out for scams. Only use approved contractors.

  • Please consider that Impact Huricane Approved windows cost double the Non Impact or more.  Typicaly $10,000 will buy you few windows. Not the entire home. 

Another option? PACE financing lets you upgrade with no upfront costs, paying through your property taxes. No credit requiremnts for the loan are necesary. This is NOT a free option.
